Biden will celebrate Diwali at the White House, deliver Sunita Williams’ message

US President Joe Biden, along with several Indian Americans, will celebrate Diwali at the White House on Monday evening. Like last year, he will kick off the celebrations by lighting a diya in the Blue Room with First Lady Jill Biden.

Following this, the US President will address the gathering of Indian Americans, where he will host a reception, the White House said: news agency PTI reported.

This will be Biden’s last Diwali reception at the White House. Withdrew his name from the US presidential election in July of this year.

The White House announced that President Biden’s introduction will include a video message. NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and retired Navy captain. Williams recorded his message from the International Space Station, where he took command in September.

Williams, who practices Hinduism, had previously sent Diwali greetings from the ISS to people around the world. He also celebrated his legacy in space by bringing cultural items such as samosas, copies of the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita, according to the White House.

In addition to the Marine Corps Band, musical entertainment will also be provided by Nootana, a Washington-based troupe specializing in classical South Asian dance and music.

Last year, President Biden shared video of the festivities His picture is on the X sleeve, where he can be seen lighting a diya with the US First Lady at the White House.

“Today Jill and I lit the diya to symbolize Diwali’s message of seeking the light of wisdom, love and unity over the darkness of hatred and division. “Let’s embrace the enduring spirit of this holiday and our nation, and consider the power of our common light,” he shared on X last year.
