A triple murder suspect has been caught after the BBC racing commentator’s wife and two daughters were killed on Tuesday.

Kyle Clifford, 26, was found by police officers in the Enfield area on Wednesday afternoon following a massive manhunt across Hertfordshire and north London.

Police believe the attack on Tuesday evening was targeted and carried out with a crossbow and possibly other weapons.

Three women were found to have been seriously injured in the attack, which police believe involved a crossbow, just before 19:00 BST on Tuesday evening.

What do we know about the suspect?

Details about the suspect are still emerging, but Kyle Clifford is believed to have left the British Army in 2022 after a short period of service.

He is also the ex-boyfriend of one of the girls.

Police are treating the killings as a “targeted incident.”

What did the police say?

Police warned the public on Wednesday not to approach the suspect, who may be carrying a crossbow.

They have also appealed for anyone who was near Ashlyn Close between lunchtime and the early evening on Tuesday to get in touch.

Local councilor Louise Nicholas said support was available for residents affected.

Hertfordshire Police said Mr Clifford was found just before 6.30pm on Wednesday and no shots were fired.

Det Insp Justine Jenkins, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said it was an “incredibly difficult time for the victims’ family”.

“We would like their privacy to be respected as they come to terms with what happened,” he added.

He said the investigation was “moving rapidly” and police had yet to formally identify the victims.

“Following extensive investigations, the suspect has been located and no others are currently being sought in connection with the investigation,” he added.

What was the public reaction?

John Hunt works as a racing commentator for BBC 5 Live.

A spokesman for the channel said: “The news today about John Hunt’s family is extremely devastating.

“Our thoughts are with John and his family at this incredibly difficult time and we will provide him with all the support we can.”

Race broadcasters also expressed their condolences.

Speaking through tears on BBC Radio 5 Live, Mark Chapman, who worked with Mr Hunt at the radio station, said it had been a “heartbreaking day”.

“On behalf of everyone connected to 5 Live Sport, our love, thoughts and support are with John and his family,” he said.

Sky Sports race presenter Alex Hammond described the incident as “unimaginable horror” and “an incredible tragedy”.

“The only words that come to my mind are love and support for Hunty, the best of men,” he said in a post on X.

Sky Sports Racing said its team was “deeply saddened” by the “tragic deaths”.

“Our thoughts are with our colleague John Hunt, his family and friends at this terrible time,” X said.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the deaths were “truly shocking” and that she had been fully briefed on the police investigation.
