Horse stuck in mud died

SMITH CO., Tenn. (WSMV) – A horse died after getting stuck in a muddy pond, according to the Smith County Rescue Squad (SCRS).

SCRS was dispatched around 6:40pm on Sunday to assist in removing a horse from the pond. When the teams arrived at the scene, they saw that the lake was dry but the mud at the bottom was quite thick.

The 25-year-old horse was stranded for an extended period of time, so owners should contact a veterinarian for euthanasia, SCRS said.

The teams then pulled the animal out of the mud.

“Rescue personnel worked for approximately 30 minutes using both the rescue truck and side-by-side winches to remove the animal from the bottom of the muddy pond,” SCRS said.
