Woman shot and hospitalized after report of SUV theft outside her home in Oakland Park – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

OAKLAND PARK, FLA. (WSVN) – Authorities arrested a woman after she was shot during a car break-in outside an Oakland Park home and taken to the hospital.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a shooting on Northwest 13th Terrace near 49th Street just after 5 a.m. Sunday.

When deputies responding to the incident arrived at the house, they saw 31-year-old Ruika Abdulrahman suffering from a gunshot wound to her arm.

Deputies provided first aid and paramedics with Oakland Park Fire Rescue transported him to a local hospital. The injuries are not life-threatening.

Cameras returning to the scene showed the driver’s side window of a white SUV parked in the driveway had been punctured by a bullet.

Crime scene investigators spent most of Sunday morning taking photos of the SUV, placing evidence markers and canvassing the blockaded neighborhood.

Local resident Rocko Kryns said he heard gunshots and was not used to all the commotion on this quiet street.

“Around 4 o’clock, somewhere around 4:30, I heard a single gunshot and I knew it was a gunshot,” he said. “I just heard about this and I know there are no fireworks; It’s not the 4th of July, so I knew something was up. It was very, very loud, different from the other sounds. “I was sitting there wondering what was going on and then, about five minutes later, I heard police cars.”

During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the incident was related to theft and Abdulrahman was arrested. Late Sunday night, detectives did not say what charges he was facing.

The homeowner was seen talking to detectives earlier in the day.

Citizens living nearby stated that the landlord did not cause any problems.

“It was a nice neighborhood. I’ve been here for over 20 years and I’ve never seen a thong like this,” Kryns said.

BSO’s Oakland Park District Crime Squad and BSO’s Violent Crimes detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. They did not specify whether Abdulrahman tried to enter the SUV.
