Proactive health and financial support for cancer care – FBC News

Being proactive about cancer symptoms and attending regular check-ups is crucial for effective prevention, early detection and overall health management.

This was highlighted by FENC Fiji Head of Operations and cancer survivor Nirmala Nambiar, who emphasized that adopting a healthy lifestyle is vital for cancer prevention and overall well-being.

It empowers individuals to take responsibility for their health and reduce their risk of cancer.

Nambiar believes some people are unable to access proper treatment due to financial barriers.

“Financial issues are a major concern, and we need to find channels for people to access treatment. Often patients are referred to local treatment options. While I cannot discuss specifics about local treatments, finances are the primary barrier.”

Nongovernmental organizations, government and corporate partners can work together to help individuals diagnosed with cancer, he says.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade Manoa Kamikamica said that the government is working to organize educational programs aimed at informing the public about cancer.

“It is important to understand that breast cancer affects people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status, or even ethnic status. It is a universal issue that requires our collective attention and action. We must work tirelessly to ensure that all members of society have access to educational resources and support.”

Kamikamica emphasizes the importance of respecting cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer, highlighting their strength and resilience.
