Kansas City Chiefs lose tight end to serious leg injury in Week 8 against Raiders

The Kansas City Chiefs decided to bring back familiar faces this season, especially on the offensive side, in order to strengthen some positions during the difficult long season that will chase the Super Bowl for the third consecutive year. Unfortunately, one of these players died after suffering a serious leg injury during a win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Chiefs watched Jody Fortson go down with a worrying leg injury late in the game as the Raiders attempted a final onside kick to get away with the ball and give the Chiefs one last possession to try to tie the game.

After the game, head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media and said: Fortson had a right knee injury He said he was injured and would undergo further testing after requesting post-game treatment from the Chiefs practice staff. More details will likely become known on Monday.

Fortson returned to the Chiefs in September after his stint with the Miami Dolphins did not last as long as expected. The Finns signed Fortson in free agency last spring, but ultimately releasing him a week before active roster cuts When it became clear that he would not make the team, the time had come. From there, Chiefs brought it back After deciding not to keep Irv Smith as TE4.

Fortson has been a rarely used offensive piece and has played in just three games for the Chiefs this season (including Week 8). He missed a single target against the Raiders on Sunday and caught just one pass before that; only five yards.

Still, Fortson has been a fan favorite in years past as a potential red zone weapon for the franchise who has always struggled to stay healthy. Fortson, a former undrafted free agent out of Valdosta State, was easy for fans to root for as an underdog who was loved by the coaching staff. Unfortunately, despite clear potential, he couldn’t put it all together in the regular season.

Fortson, who first came to Kansas City before the 2019 season, has 15 catches for 160 yards and four scores in his six-year NFL career.
