WOODBRIDGE – Police are searching for the driver of the car involved in a single-vehicle crash that killed a passenger Friday, authorities said.

The driver is thought to have fled the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate a single-car crash that killed 47-year-old Mario Ortiz Bonilla of North Plainfield, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Woodbridge Police Department Chief Robert Hubner said.

According to the statement made by the prosecutor’s office, at 09.05 on Friday, the police intervened in the 9th Road and Green Street area in the district upon reporting an accident. At the scene, authorities found a 2017 Kia Sportage with only Bonilla, the front passenger, inside.

Authorities said Bonilla succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation by Detective Jeffery Horvath of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that the driver of the Kia Sportage fled the scene.
