Boil water notice issued for the City of Overton

OVERTON, Texas (KLTV) – A boil water advisory has been issued in Overton after crews repaired a water main break.

Around 1:15 a.m., the city issued a statement saying there was a water main break near Overton Cemetery. Overton Public Works, the volunteer fire department and police mobilized to begin addressing the problem.

A 6-inch pipe leading from the 10-inch main line broke, leaving the town without water for a little more than an hour, officials said.

The municipality said that the pressure would return to normal as of 04.15 and warned to boil water.

All residents must boil their water before consuming (e.g. hand/face washing, brushing teeth, drinking water, etc.). Children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria.

Drinking, cooking and ice-making water must be boiled and cooled before being offered for human consumption to ensure that all harmful bacteria and other microbes are destroyed. The water should be brought to a strong boil and then boiled for two minutes.

Instead of boiling, individuals can purchase bottled water or obtain water from another suitable source.
