AP College Football Poll 2024: Week 10 Top 25 Rankings | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats and Rumors

B/R

Oregon continues to lead the Associated Press Top 25 surveys After a 9th week in which great sorrows were mild.

The rest of the top five remains pretty much the same; He follows Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State and the Miami Ducks. The situation is much different at the bottom of the poll, following the defeat of four teams ranked 20th or lower on Saturday.

Oregon gave Illinois a major reality check at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks jumped out to a 35-3 lead at halftime and held steady the rest of the game.

Dillon Gabriel threw for 291 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, while Jordan James and Noah Whittington combined for 139 yards and a score. Illinois, on the other hand, had just 89 yards in the first half because the offense couldn’t move the ball.

The Illini are already bowl eligible, so they’ll have a lot to celebrate this year. But Saturday’s one-sided defeat removed them from the Big Ten’s contender class.

Week 9 may have had a serious consequence for LSU as well.

The Tigers led Texas A&M 17-7 at halftime, but watched the Aggies outscore them 31-6 in the second half. It was a comprehensive collapse in every sense of the word.

Three INTs in the second half.
Falling balls.
The defense couldn’t adjust to the new QB.
He rushed the ball 22 times for 33 yards.
Three FG attempts with zero points.
That’s all you need to know. This is the ball game. That’s why Texas A&M is ranked first in the SEC and #LSU not.

By midway through the third quarter, everyone at Kyle Field and those watching the game from home knew what the A&M offense was going to be. Still, LSU’s defense had no answer to the Aggies’ ground game.

Amari Daniels, Le’Veon Moss and Marcel Reed carried the ball 35 times for 236 yards and five touchdowns. Reed, who replaced Conner Weigman at quarterback, attempted only two passes.

The Tigers’ failure to corral Reed does not bode well for their next game. They host Alabama and mobile quarterback Jalen Milroe on November 9th.

This clash is effectively a College Football Playoff playoff with both teams sitting at 6-2. As respected as the SEC is, it’s hard to imagine a team with three losses in the conference getting the benefit of the doubt from the selection committee.

Speaking of playoff hopes, Navy and Army’s dream of competing for a spot in the CFP in December is firmly over. Notre Dame delivered, defeating the Midshipmen for a 51-14 victory.

The Fighting Irish beat Navy in their own game with 265 total yards and 6.6 yards per carry, and their performance will have many fans looking at them a little differently.

As bleak as things looked in the immediate aftermath of the Northern Illinois defeat, there are four winnable games between Notre Dame and the first-round playoffs. This stretch will begin on November 9th against Florida State.

Come Week 10, Penn State and Ohio State cross paths for the most titanic battle on the schedule.

It appears the Buckeyes are still trying to step things up and get to the level they can with the talent they have on their roster. They outscored Nebraska midway through the fourth quarter last Saturday and mustered just 285 yards from scrimmage.

This isn’t a must-win situation for Penn State head coach James Franklin, but it’s pretty close in terms of him getting out of it. long standing reputation. Much of the goodwill and enthusiasm generated by the Nittany Lions’ 7-0 start will evaporate if they can’t beat a very beatable Ohio State team in Happy Valley.
