Nursery worker who attacked a disabled child was charged

CROSS STRIPS, W.Va.. (WSAZ) – A daycare worker is accused of harming a disabled child in her care, according to court documents.

Deputies say the incident occurred at Cross Lanes Child Care and Learning Center.

A former employee of the learning center on Big Tyler Road told deputies she witnessed Amber Elizabeth Seiler hit a 4-year-old special needs child in the mouth with her hand and yell at the child while he slept, deputies said.

The alleged abuse is said to have occurred in the summer of 2024.

Amber Seiler of Kenova was charged with battery and assault on a disabled child.

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) has placed Cross Lanes Child Care and Learning Center on interim license status and reduced the facility’s capacity to zero, according to a press release from DoHS.

The statement states that the decision will come into effect on Sunday, October 27, 2024, following serious non-compliance with the state’s child care licensing regulations.
