Teenage boy killed in crash in Amherst County

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A teenage boy is dead after a crash in Amherst County on Saturday, according to Virginia State Police.

Police said crews responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash on Possum Island Road at 1:45 p.m.

According to police, the driver of the Kia Forte was traveling southbound when he lost control, went off the right side of the road, hit a mailbox and a utility pole and overturned.

It was determined that the 16-year-old passenger who was thrown from the vehicle died at the scene. Police said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The driver, a 34-year-old from Madison Heights, suffered minor injuries. Police said the man was also not wearing his seat belt.

Police said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
