Montgomery man killed, Wallkill man injured in Newburgh collision

NEWBURGH TOWN – A Montgomery man was killed and a Wallkill man was injured when their vehicles crashed head-on on Route 32 Thursday morning.

Town of Newburgh police said the collision occurred shortly after 11 a.m.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Ford Econoline minivan driven by 36-year-old Leonel Marquez-Martinez of Wallkill was heading south on Route 32 and a 2015 Chevrolet Volt driven by 26-year-old Marcus Bennett of Montgomery was also driving. He determined that he was heading north on Route 32. when their vehicles collided head-on.

Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene by the Orange County Medical Examiner’s office.

Marquez-Martinez is at Montefiore St. in Newburgh. He was taken to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, where he was treated and described in a stable condition.

Municipal police are continuing their investigation into the accident. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call 845-564-1100.

Town police were assisted at the scene by state police, Plattekill police, Newburgh Town Emergency Medical Services and Cronomer Valley and Plattekill fire departments.
