Military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said in a social media post that the Israeli army had withdrawn from Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza and completed the raid on the “terrorist headquarters established by Hamas” in Jabaliya.

Shoshani said weapons, cash and intelligence documents were seized in and around the hospital. The army surrounded the hospital last week and broke in over the weekend. Some militants barricaded the hospital and about 100 people were arrested, including some who the military said tried to escape during the evacuation of civilians.

Gaza’s Ministry of Health denied any militant presence in the hospital. The ministry accused the Israelis of detaining all male medical staff at the hospital and locking the women in hospital rooms without food or water. World Health Organization President Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described the situation in northern Gaza as a “catastrophe”.

According to reports in Lebanese and Israeli media, Israeli planes struck Lebanon’s ancient city of Tire on Monday after the army called for evacuation for parts of the coastal area. Previously, a barrage of approximately 30 rockets had been fired from Lebanon into Israel.

Despite the intensifying air attacks between Israel and Iran-backed Lebanon-based Hezbollah, Tire was considered safe until recently. But Israeli airstrikes this week have shattered building facades, left piles of rubble in the streets and raised concerns that the city is unsafe. As a result, tens of thousands of residents fled.
