While describing the fight against Yhwach in Bleach TYBW Episode 3, voice actor Hideo Ishikawa reveals his biggest regret about the anime.

Bleach TYBW Part 3 Squad 13’s captain bids farewell to Jushiro Ukitake. Following the Soul King’s death, the three realms were on the brink of destruction. His presence not only holds the three realms together, but also regulates the flow of souls entering and leaving the Soul Society, keeping the flow constant.

Therefore, his death could cause unimaginable destruction in the world. As the Soul Society panics over the chaos, Ukitake steps forward to temporarily replace the Soul King. He dies during the Kamikake ritual and helps stabilize the Soul Society for ten minutes.

In an interview with OriconUkitake’s voice actor, Hideo Ishikawa, revealed his biggest regret about the anime: “Ukitake is the only captain of the current Gotei 13 who hasn’t used a Bankai yet! That’s why I even wanted to say “bankai” once (laughs). I heard many people’s Bankai voices during the dubbing and while watching the anime. As for Morita, how many times has he shouted “bankai!” I heard? (laughs). I’m really jealous.”

Ukitake contracted a fatal lung disease when he was three years old. His family took him to the shrine of Mimihagi (the Soul King’s right-hand man) and prayed for his lungs to be removed. Mimihagi complied with their demands, which allowed Ukitake to survive and even become a Soul Reaper.

He was strong enough to become Team Captain. So he must know how to use Bankai. However, the series never revealed his Bankai, which deprived the voice actor of the pleasure of saying “Bankai”.

Since this is such a powerful ability, almost every Bankai is always excited and is followed by an incredible fight. However, we only saw Jushiro’s Shikai, Sōgyo no Kotowaria’s double blade.
