Blackpool vs Wigan predictions

Blackpool and Wigan are underdogs in the bottom third of League One and their meeting at Bloomfield Road on Monday could be a tricky affair.

Just two points separate the Tangerines and Latics, who sit 18th and 19th respectively, and both enter this competition in poor form.

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce is on sabbatical leave and has missed his side’s last two games; the last of these was a 5-1 defeat to Peterborough.

Bruce’s assistant Steve Agnew will likely be on the bench again on Monday night but faces the challenge of ending a three-game losing streak.

Luckily the away side were also pretty miserable, losing back-to-back league games against Cambridge and Mansfield, so it’s hard to make a case for either side.

Despite their precarious position in the table, Wigan boast the best defense in League One, oddly having conceded just nine goals in 12 games.

Indeed, their wastefulness at the other end of the pitch has cost them dearly and goals could be invaluable in this game.

Blackpool have performed slightly better in front of goal than Wigan this term, but the Tangerines have scored just three goals in their last four games and have struggled against a fairly solid defence.

A low-scoring clash is on the cards at Bloomfield Road and the best betting angle could be under 1.5 goals, which has happened in four of Wigan’s last seven games.

Key statistics

An average of just 1.58 goals per game have been scored in Wigan’s League One fixtures this season.
