BNP leader files a case against 5 police officers for attempted murder

Today, detective branch (DBs) filed a criminal complaint against five policemen, including Lalbagh district former deputy commissioner (DC) Moshiur Rahman and additional assistant commissioner (ADC) Mostafa Kamal, for allegedly beating and attempting to murder BNP leader and former Dhaka South City Corporation. A case was filed against (DSCC) ward-26 councilor Mir Ashraf Ali Azam.

The other three accused are Yasir Arafat, former ADC of DB’s Kotwali district, Inspector Sher Alam and Sub-Inspector Polash Chowdhury Dipon.

Mir Ashraf Ali Azam filed his complaint in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanam. After recording the statement of the complainant, the court asked the Lalbagh Police Station in-charge to file the matter as a first information report (FIR).

According to the case documents, a group of 20/25 police officers raided Azam’s house on July 27, 2023. They raided the house, broke the folding door and beat the watchman. Allegedly, the police caught Azam in front of his wife and son and dragged him out of the room. When Azam resisted, they beat him brutally and threw him down the stairs. Azam, whose spine was broken as a result of the fall, was seriously injured.

The injured person was later taken to the hospital and received treatment for six months due to his spinal fracture. The complainant said he still cannot walk normally due to his injuries.
