MILWAUKEE — Saturday afternoon on North 48th St. in Milwaukee. and W. Center St. A 12-year-old boy was killed by gunfire nearby.

Milwaukee Police said a 15-year-old boy was taken into custody in connection with the attack. The District Attorney’s Office will review the charges in the coming days.

“I was heartbroken because I knew he was a child,” said area neighbor Precious Pully. “Nobody wants to bury their child, especially because of violence.”

Pully remembered the advice he gave his children as he watched police tape the crime scene a few houses away from his own home.

“Stay safe, don’t run down the street, respect everyone and if you hear gunshots on the ground,” Pully said.

Still, he believes that despite the violence, the families who call the neighborhood home are peaceful. Pully told TMJ4’s Tahleel Mohieldin that neighbors are trying to do their part and look out for each other, but they need help.

That’s why he and others in the neighborhood are asking police to be more proactive in their communities.

“They don’t just come here to check on the kids,” Pully explained. “When we were kids, they were handing out baseball cards, and we were happy to see the police.”

Milwaukee Police say they are investigating the fatal shooting. The 12-year-old boy, who was taken to Children’s Hospital on Saturday after the incident, could not be saved.

Milwaukee Police also responded to two other unrelated fatal shootings around noon Saturday. N. 11th Street and W. Atkinson Boulevard and another one nearby in the evening N.18th St. and W. Capitol Dr.
