Farrell runs for a pair of TDs and Rhode Island beats Maine 24-14 for its 6th in a row.

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — Devin Farrell ran for a pair of shorthanded touchdowns and Malik Grant broke the tie with a fourth-quarter score to lift Rhode Island past Maine 24-14 for its sixth straight win Saturday.

Farrell threw a 46-yard completion to Tommy Smith to the Maine 3-yard line, and Grant scored directly after Farrell held it for 2 yards. The Black Bears then scored three points as Ty Groff kicked a 35-yard field goal to give the Rams (7-1, 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association) an advantage with six minutes remaining.

Farrell was 13-of-24 passing for 202 yards with two rushing scores and Rhode Island’s 14-7 halftime lead. Grant rushed for 87 yards on 22 carries.

Carter Peevy was 28 of 37 for 278 yards and one score. Brian Santana-Fish rushed for 89 yards and a score on 15 carries. Montigo Moss caught nine passes for 80 yards.

The Rams sacked Peevy five times, twice by Carson Primrose.

Maine (4-4, 2-3) was looking for its second win against a ranked team in as many weeks. The Black Bears beat then-No. 5 Villanova was 35-7 last week. Rhode Island entered this game ranked No. 16 in the FCS coaches poll.
