Mexico Women continue on their way with victory against Venezuela

CONCACAF team Mexico put an end to its recent bad form tonight after a comfortable 3-0 win against Venezuela.

Goalscorers: Palacios 4′, Perez 60′, 73′

El Tri Femenil had previously failed to win any of their six matches (0-1-5), including a 3-2 win over Paraguay in March, but California-born striker Kiana Palacios put Mexico into action with the game’s opening salvo. Thanks to the goal scored in the 4th minute.

The home side looked to have good value with their one-goal lead at half-time, and the state of play on the field suggested that Venezuela could count themselves lucky not to be trailing by a larger margin.

Mexico doubled their advantage in the 60th minute, just a minute after second-half substitute Nicole Pérez came off the bench to replace Aylín Aviléz, who was making her second appearance after making her debut against the United States in July.

It was Pérez’s first goal for Mexico, with the 23-year-old Guadalajara native having previously shone at both the U17 and U20 level.

Pérez would complete his brace 13 minutes later when he put Mexico out of sight at the Estadio Agustín Coruco Díaz to make it three and make it a memorable night for the young midfielder in a burgeoning international career.

Mexico’s next test will be at home, this time against Thailand.
