Trump reminded the campaign period at the Parliament rally: ‘I will never forget’

Gov. Tim Walz made the remarks Saturday afternoon at a “Native Americans for Harris-Walz” early voting rally in Window Rock, Ariz., a remote area of the Navajo Nation.

Walz’s visit marks the first time a presidential candidate has traveled to the Navajo Nation this term, according to the campaign.

“We’re here because we don’t take any vote for granted, and we’re here to respect the Navajo Nation and earn your vote. Now I’ll tell you we’re running like everything is on the line, because everything is on the line,” he said.

Given the closeness of this election, especially in the battleground state of Arizona, Native votes could really tip the scales in Democrats’ favor, Walz said.

“I think it’s probably because of the work that’s been done here, the work that’s been done across the nation that we’ve won everything and put Kamala Harris in the White House,” Walz said.

Walz claimed that Donald Trump did not support Native Americans while in office and specifically criticized Trump for meeting with the families of Navajo war veterans at the White House in 2017.

The event took place in front of a picture of Andrew Jackson, the president who signed the legislation that eventually led to the “Trail of Tears.”

“I don’t know if he knew his past well enough to know what he was doing, but I guarantee you that the people around him knew the insult they were doing to Indian country by putting those heroes in front of that portrait,” Walz said.

Walz emphasized how his and Harris’ economic policies would strengthen Tribal entrepreneurs and businesses and improve health care options.

“I want to be clear and I want to make sure you hear it and the country hears it, too. Kamala Harris and I recognize the promises this country has made to indigenous peoples. We will preserve and strengthen the ties between our nations and maintain our trust and Treaty obligations,” he said.
