Rockets rebound in win over Grizzlies

The Houston Rockets earned a convincing victory over the Memphis Grizzlies last night, winning 128-108. In Houston’s second game of the season, the team trailed by as many as 12 points in the second quarter, but a scoring surge and excellent defense in the second half led to a 20-point victory.

The Rockets were all over the court and the scoring spread was incredibly even. While Jalen Green stood out with 22 points, five other players scored between 13 and 18 points.

Perhaps the most impressive part of the win was how Houston not only controlled the basket, but also dominated it. The Rockets grabbed 64 rebounds, 23 of which were offensive rebounds. The Grizzlies had just 43 rebounds overall.

Especially Alperen Şengün and Jabari Smith Jr. dominated the glass. Despite the absence of reserve center Steven Adams, Sengun had 15 rebounds and Smith Jr. He got 16 rebounds. The two had a combined 11 offensive rebounds.

Even the guards were getting in on the action as Green, Amen Thompson and Fred VanVleet combined for 15 boards.

Houston’s rebounding limited second-chance opportunities for Memphis. The Grizzlies grabbed just 14 offensive rebounds, which could be attributed to the team scoring just 108 points.

On the other hand, Rockets’ 23 offensive rebounds created more opportunities in the second half. Houston scored 39 points in the third quarter alone and then scored 30 points in the fourth quarter.

Houston will be away in their next game against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, October 28.
