QB Pereira pulled it all off in Merrimack’s 51-17 win over Colgate

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (AP) — Ayden Pereira threw three goals and added one more and Merrimack beat Colgate 51-17 in a nonconference game on Saturday for its third straight win.

The Warriors (4-4) never trailed. Merrimack took a 17-10 lead at halftime and made sure of it with three touchdowns in the third quarter.

Pereira ran for a 19-yard touchdown on a one-play drive, followed by a Colgate punt to take a 24-10 lead into the third quarter. Later in the quarter, Pereira threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Jalen McDonald to take a three-goal advantage. Colgate (2-6) responded with Jake Stearney throwing a 47-yard touchdown pass to Brady Hutchison before Pereira threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Trevor Shorter. After the missed points, the score was 37-17.

Pereira completed 15-of-20 passes for 292 yards and rushed for 102 yards on 13 carries. Brendon Wyatt rushed for 72 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns. Pereira’s 395 yards of total offense eclipsed Colgate’s 283 yards. The Warriors tallied 535 total yards.

Stearney threw for 155 yards with one touchdown and was intercepted twice.
