Fatal two-vehicle crash closes highway in Marion County

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – A man died in a car crash in Marion County Saturday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers said the crash occurred on Northeast 160th Avenue Road south of Northeast 180th Street.

It is unknown whether the victim, a 64-year-old man from Fort McCoy, was wearing a seat belt while driving his sedan.

The other vehicle was a pickup truck driven by two men wearing seat belts, ages 58 and 82, from Lutz and Tampa, respectively.

The press release did not include any additional information about how the accident occurred.

The road remained closed while FHP troopers investigated the crash and reopened approximately 4 hours later.

FHP Corporal M. Baker is the lead homicide investigator on this case.
