Dodgers look to take World Series lead after Freddie Freeman’s heroic efforts in Game 1

Freeman became the first player in MLB history to accomplish the heroic feat in a World Series game. Additionally, 36 years ago Kirk Gibson hit a walk-off home run against the Oakland Athletics in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series.

“When you’re told to do something like this in this game that’s been around for so long, I love the history of this game, I love being a part of it, it’s very special,” he said after the match. via MLB.com. “I’ve been playing this game for a long time and you dream of those moments to show up in those moments. Even if you’re 35 and you’ve been in the league for 15 years, you want to be a part of them.”

Unfortunately, the blockbuster spectacle the Dodgers are trying to put together needs a few acts, a twist, and maybe even an Oscar-worthy ending rather than a thrilling beginning.

“You never want to end up like that,” Stanton said after the game. “You’ve got to win four anyway. Nobody said it was going to be easy.”
