Karnataka man’s ‘illness’ exposed murder plot of his wife and online lover, both arrested: Report | bengaluru

A 36-year-old woman from Karkala taluk district of Karnataka and her alleged lover, whom she met on social media, were arrested in connection with the murder of the woman’s husband.

Balakrishna was suffering from the disease for weeks and was treated in various hospitals in Karkala, Manipal. At around 3.30 am on October 20, Balakrishna’s father reportedly heard a noise and found Balakrishna unresponsive. Later, a doctor at the government hospital declared him dead.

Initially, Prathima claimed that her husband died suddenly due to illness. However, due to his sudden death, suspicions were raised and a case of Unnatural Death Report (UDR) was registered at Ajekar police station.

Research findings

The investigation revealed Prathima’s alleged relationship with Hegde and police said this was the probable cause of the crime. Fearing that Balakrishna would interfere with their relationship, the couple allegedly conspired to kill him.

Police reports show that Hegde supplied poison to Prathima, which she mixed into her husband’s food. He then allegedly invited Hegde to his house around 1.30 am on October 20 and the duo strangled Balakrishna with a bed sheet, the report said.

Following this statement, Ajekar police arrested Prathima from Marne village of Ajekar and Hegde from Hirgana village of Karkala.

The duo was charged under sections 61(1)(a), 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

Prathima reportedly owns a beauty salon and is active on social media, often posting videos and reels depicting a happy life.
