Youth who spent time in the foster care system were rewarded for their advocacy work

COLORADO SPRINGS — A group of teens who spent time in the foster care system were honored Friday for their advocacy work.

Several government agencies, including the Colorado Department of Human Services and the Office of Children’s Counsel, held events at the Pioneers Museum.

The young men and women recognized became active in supporting and advocating for children and raising awareness of Colorado’s bill of rights for foster youth.

News5 spoke with foster care advocate Bradeen Babock, who said the biggest challenge is helping children in the system when they return to their biological families.

“You see people who don’t have the resources to advocate for themselves, they need help and they need people to help and that’s what I do and that’s because… it brings happiness, that’s what motivates us.” me,” Babock said.

Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade was on hand to congratulate the recipients Friday afternoon.
