ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – As much as possible Mistrial on horizon in YSL RICO caseOn Friday, a group of protesters gathered outside the Fulton County Courthouse to voice their concerns.

The group of about 20 protesters from Atlanta and around the country told Atlanta News First they have serious concerns about this case, including its length, cost to taxpayers and what they describe as attacks on artistic expression.

This trial started about a year ago in November 2023.

Ten Wilkerson traveled from Chicago to call for an end to the YSL Rico case in Fulton County. He said he has been following the trial every step of the way since December.

“As of today, for 900 days, Young Thug and his co-defendants have been detained in this case,” Wilkerson said.

Wilkerson said they are calling for transparency and accountability.

“When we talk about justice and we talk about the amount of money spent on this case, there are so many other cases that are not even possible to happen because this case is ongoing,” he said. “When it comes to justice, that’s not what’s going to happen in this case, especially when you gave the jury 20 different instructions. “If the case is not concluded on Monday, there will be six more months until this case ends.”

Wilkerson also said he had concerns about the rapper’s lyrics being used as evidence.

“If we take this situation and focus on rap lyrics, what kind of precedent does this set for the rest of the country, the rest of the world?” he asked. “Art in general is not something to be sued.”

The protest organizer also said one of his concerns was that the former judge on the case, Ural Glanville, spoke to a prosecutor and a witness when no one from the defense was present, or had a “one-sided” conversation. Judge Glanville later recused himself from the case and was replaced by Judge Paige Whitaker.

Atlanta News First has confirmed that at least one defendant in this case has met with District Attorney Fani Willis to discuss a plea agreement. Attorney Joshua Schiffer, who is not connected to this case, said others have held similar meetings.

Sudden change in route It came after a prosecution witness read aloud to the jury a social media post referencing the defendant’s previous incarceration. Now Judge Whitaker is considering a request for a trial without prejudice, meaning the case could end up in court again.

Protesters say options are on the table and they hope the judge rules in favor of a bias-free trial. That decision could come as early as Monday.
