Woman indicted on murder charges after admitting to fatal hit-and-run crash in 2018

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A woman who confessed last year to a fatal 2018 hit-and-run crash was sentenced Friday, according to Metro Nashville police.

Kara Vaughn, 32, told police she was supposed to pick up Markeith Bass, 34, but he hit her with the vehicle in a fit of rage. Police said he was drunk and driving a stolen SUV when he hit her.

The crash happened on Trinity Lane near Brick Church Pike in September 2018.

Vaughn has been incarcerated since 2022 on unrelated charges, but admitted to a DCSO Corporal that he hit Bass with a car in February 2023 to “clear his conscience.”

Vaughn was arrested Friday morning on an outstanding 2nd-degree murder indictment, police said.
