Magoffin County woman wins best birthday gift

MAGOFFIN, Ky. (WYMT) – Brianna Vanhoose of Salyersville received a Kentucky Scratch-Off ticket from her aunt as a birthday present.

To Vanhoose’s surprise, his ticket won $50,000.

Vanhoose told lottery officials that he doesn’t usually play the lottery.

“This was my first time buying a $50 ticket,” his aunt said. “I bought two tickets, drew one and gave one to him for his birthday.”

After purchasing the tickets, Vanhoose and her aunt stopped by her mother’s house near the store. It was there that he discovered he had a winning ticket.

“She (her aunt) won $75, so I said, ‘okay, I’m not going to win anything,'” Vanhoose said. “I drew it, I saw it, and I ran away immediately.”

Vanhoose traveled to Louisville on October 15 to collect a check for $36,000 before taxes.

Vanhoose is still having a hard time believing he won the lottery.

“I still don’t know what to think,” he said. “It still doesn’t seem real.”

$500 will be awarded to Kash Stop #2 in Salyersville where the winning ticket was sold.
