AD Greg Byrne evaluates Alabama football discipline under Kalen DeBoer

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne He said he tries to read only two articles a week alabama footballwin or lose.

It did make some headlines, though. One of these had to do with discipline in new coach Kalen DeBoer’s football program; Byrne Joins The Paul Finebaum Show on SEC Network He touched on this issue on Friday.

“Do we have some penalties? Of course,” Byrne said. “We’re working on it every day to get better.”

Then Byrne gave an example. He was doing “old man training” at the indoor football facility at 6 a.m. on Monday.

He said an unnamed player was “putting in extra work based on a bad decision from Saturday.”

“Are we going to tweet about it or post a video about it? No,” Byrne said. “But I’m really impressed in terms of accountability, in terms of discipline and structure. We’re not going backwards at this point.”

DeBoer and his program have faced a lot of scrutiny lately, losing two games in the last three weeks. This marks the first time Alabama has lost two games before November since 2007, Nick Saban’s first season.

Alabama is one of the most penalized teams in the country; Ranking fifth among the total penalties, the number of penalties enters this weekend with 133. This means an average of 8.86 penalties per match. Penalties have also been a problem at times over the last few seasons.

“I believe (DeBoer) is definitely focused on discipline and structure,” Byrne said. “I saw. They train every week to get better. We have teams in the past that have competed and gotten better at different times of the year. “I have full confidence that we will get better every week.”

No. 15 Alabama will face No. 21 Missouri on Saturday (2:45 p.m. CT, ABC) at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
