Leilani Simon found guilty of murder in death of 20-month-old son

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A jury found Leilani Simon, the woman accused of killing her 20-month-old son Quinton Simon, guilty on all charges.

Leilani was facing a 19-count indictment charging her with premeditated murder, felony murder, concealing the death of another person and making false statements.

Quinton was reported missing on October 5, 2022. Six days later, Leilani was named as the sole suspect in her disappearance and death.

On November 18, 2022, Quinton’s remains were found in a landfill in Chatham County. Leilani was arrested three days later.

VIEW PREVIOUS TESTIMONY:

The jury’s verdict came after eight days of witness testimony. Both the State and Defense rested their cases on Wednesday.

Both sides made their closing statements on Thursday.

Jury deliberations began around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The jury left for the night before 5 p.m.

The jury resumed deliberations around 9:30 Friday morning. After almost seven hours of deliberation, they came to a conclusion.

Following the verdict, Leilani’s mother, Billie Jo Howell, released a statement on Friday, saying: “Our family is devastated and Quinton deserves justice. We want Quinton to return home so he can be buried. I hate that I can’t be there for Leilani; “We love it, but we don’t stand behind any of this.”
