2 dogs killed in house fire in Brunswick Hills

BRUNSWICK HILLS, Ohio (WOIO) – The fire department has confirmed that two of the owner’s dogs were killed in a house fire in Brunswick Hills.

It was the second house fire in the county in eight days and the third significant fire in Medina County, the Brunswick Hills Fire Department said.

BHFD said first responders and mutual aid departments from Brunswick Hills were dispatched to the house fire on Edmund Court around 12:55 a.m. on Oct. 24.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke conditions and the homeowner outside, according to BHFD.

The homeowner told firefighters that two dogs were still inside the home, BHFD reported.

BHFD said crews used a pre-connected hose line to fight the kitchen fire.

Additional firefighters searched the home and found the two dogs, according to BHFD.

Firefighters removed the dogs from the home and performed life-saving measures, BHFD said.

Despite all efforts, BHFD confirmed that the dogs died from smoke inhalation.

The Medina County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating the fire.

The cause and extent of the damage are currently unknown.

BHFD said the following organizations assisted at the scene:

  • Brunswick Fire Division
  • Hinckley County Fire Department
  • North Royalton Fire Department
  • City of Strongsville Fire Department
