Oklahoma State in Top 5 for Sierra Cannon 4-Star Jaden Nickens

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have struggled on the field this season heading into Saturday’s showdown with the Baylor Bears. They are winless in the Big 12 Conference this year and have an overall record of 3-4 on the season. They may not have made much of a splash on the football field this 2024, but they are hard at work on the recruiting trail.

A big announcement was made on social media on Thursday; Sierra Canyon and former Milwood Falcon wide receiver Jaden Nickens listed Oklahoma State as one of his final five college interests. Nickens is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound pure athlete who has history with the great state of Oklahoma.

Many people may forget that Nickens was a star athlete at Milwood High School and also won a state championship in basketball with Douglass. If Nickens had stayed in state for his senior season, he likely would have been Oklahoma’s No. 1 player. But he transferred to one of the nation’s top private schools in Sierra Canyon California. He is currently the fifth-ranked receiver in the state of California and is listed as a four-star athlete.

Oklahoma State may have the inside track considering Nickens is an Oklahoman by heart. He also listed California, Kansas, Texas A&M and Georgia among his top five college choices going forward. This season, Nickens caught 14 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown for the 5-3 Sierra Canyon Trailblazers.

Cowboys remain in state with first commitment from 2025 class

Oklahoma State started working early in the race to land the top athletes in the 2025 class. Their first tough commitment in the 2025 class came in February when they acquired three-star athlete Matrail Lopez. Lopez is currently the 18th ranked player in Oklahoma with a tremendous athletic ceiling.

He boasted offers from the University of Texas San Antonio, North Texas, Tulsa and Washington State. It was a no-brainer for the crafty wide receiver from the small southeastern town of Idabel Oklahoma. When the cowboys knocked on the door… Lopez answered.

Lopez has thrown for 1,248 all-purpose yards and 20 total touchdowns through the first seven games of the 2024 season. He has recorded at least one touchdown pass four different ways this season and could be an excellent fit to recruit Oklahoma State’s core during his tenure as a Cowboy. Lopez is very similar to current Oklahoma State wideout Brennan Presley.

Lopez is on track to graduate high school early and hopes to be on campus in Stillwater before the end of the year.
