The train line, where one person died and four people were seriously injured in the accident, will reopen a week after the death.

Passenger Tudor Evans, 66, Ceredigion, from Aberystwyth, died when the train he was on collided with another train on the Cambrian line near Llanbrynmair, Powys, on Monday.

According to the Rail Accident Investigation Branch, four people were seriously injured in the nearby accident and 11 others required hospital treatment.

The investigation at the site is now complete and Transport for Wales (TfW) is in the process of removing two trains, while Network Rail said it was carrying out “extensive checks and safety inspections” ahead of the line’s reopening on Monday.

TfW said test trains would pass through the area to ensure everything was running normally before starting passenger operations on Monday.

Passengers are advised to check before traveling as the incident may affect train services in the short term.

Network Rail’s Nick Millington said: “The tragic events of Monday night will forever be etched in my memory and my thoughts remain with everyone affected.

“Fortunately, incidents like this are very rare on the rail network. We continue to operate one of the safest rail networks in Europe.”
