Man involved in gunfight with DeKalb County Deputies identified | MyStateline

DEKALB COUNTY, Illinois (WTVO) — The DeKalb County coroner has released the name of the man killed during a shootout with deputies as 42-year-old Abram Perez.

His last known address is Rockford, according to authorities.

Rockford Police investigated a “shots fired” call in the 4800 block of Creek View Road around 9:53 p.m. Tuesday.

At 11:03 p.m., the DeKalb County Sheriff’s office was notified that the suspect’s vehicle registration was linked to a DeKalb address.

Traffic cameras later located the vehicle at Peace and Mercantile Drive.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies located the vehicle at the listed address and attempted to stop it, but the driver fled the scene, prompting a chase that ended on Rich Road west of Nelson Road. Officials said stop sticks were used to deflate the vehicle’s tires.

At that point, police said they determined Perez was in the car, had a gun and was holding the other person hostage.

Negotiators were called to the scene and the hostage was released a few hours later.

Police said Perez remained in the car when he “suddenly pointed the gun at the officer and fired several shots,” causing deputies to return fire, killing Perez.

The cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results.

The investigation was turned over to the Illinois State Police.
