Geno Smith offers advice to Bryce Young amid tumultuous start to Panthers career

Bryce Young returns as starter Carolina Panthers. Andy Dalton’s injury reopened his path to the starting role. It’s a tough matchup, but this could be his last chance to convince the Panthers to keep him either this season or in the offseason. Geno Smith, once a top journeyman prospect who failed to make his first team, had some advice for the young point guard.

Geno Smith was drafted by the New York Jets. A few years ago, he revived his career with his fourth team with the help of Dave Canales, now the Panthers’ head coach. Young would prefer not to go down this path, but there’s a chance he could.

“Forget it! Don’t regret it. The thing about seizing opportunities is that you don’t know when the next one will come. When you get the opportunity, you have to grab the bull by the horns and run with it.”

Smith said Young is a quarterback who has accomplished a lot of great things throughout his overall football career. He believes Young needs to be confident and ready for this moment. He advised the Panthers quarterback to stay focused on preparation this week and get after it on Sunday.

While the Panthers have privately made their decision on whether Young is their future, they would likely prefer not to see Young go Smith’s way. They spent an unprecedented amount of capital on Young, so seeing him play for another team would be a brutal turn of events.
