Here are the Georgia Department of Health’s restaurant inspection scores for Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties, conducted Oct. 8-22. Scores in each category are listed according to the date of the most recent audit.

The Georgia Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health conducts regular restaurant inspections to help keep residents and visitors safe.

Athens-Clarke County: Low scores and their reasons

  • BEST WESTERN ATHENS (170 N MILLEDGE AVE): 85. The inspector notes: “There is dried milk and other debris inside the kitchen refrigerator. Crushed sausage casings have not been separated. The 3-compartment sink faucet is dripping/leaking.”

  • PARIS BANH MI (163 W CLAYTON ST STE 218E): 82. The inspector states: “Ice is building up in the concealed (WI) freezer. Boba warmer is not maintaining temperature at 135F.”

  • CALI N TITO’S (1427 S LUMPKIN ST): 86. The inspector states: “We observed that employees did not sterilize the thermometer prior to use. The WIC failed to keep food at 41F or below. The lower right corner of the WIC was not in good condition.”

  • DOUBLE BARREL (429 E WIDE ST): 87. The inspector states: “There are no paper towels in the men’s and women’s toilets. Mold growth was observed on the deflector area of ​​the right ice machine. Fruit flies and 1 live cockroach were observed in the bars. Many dead cockroaches were observed on the floor.”

  • SANFORD STADIUM – ARAMARK – B-5 (100 SANFORD DRIVERS): 83. Inspector states: “Hand towels not available for use at hand sinks. RI with glass door does not maintain food temperature at 41F. Employee items not stored in designated location.”

  • SANFORD STADIUM – ARAMARK – B-6 (100 SANFORD DRIVERS): 84. The inspector notes: “Paper towels are not available for use at the hand sink. Employee items are not stored in the designated area.”

  • SANFORD STADIUM – ARAMARK – A-3 – PAPA JOHN’S PIZZA (100 SANFORD DRIVERS): 88. The inspector states: “We observed multiple employees’ beverages being stored in opened water bottles; we observed an opened bag of chips at the prep table. No paper towels were provided at the back sink. We observed employees wearing watch/wrist bands while preparing food. Employees’ personal items were stored at the prep table.”

  • ARAMARK @ SANFORD STADIUM STAND A-9 (106 E CAMPUS RD): 80. The inspector states: “We observed employees’ beverages being stored in unapproved containers (cans, cups with lids). We observed employees wearing watches/wristbands. Nothing other than a plain band loop on the hands or wrists is permitted.”

  • LOCATION (229 E WIDE ST): 87. Inspector notes: “Observed grains stored openly in upstairs walk-in cooler (WIC). Observed cut tomatoes and okra stored openly in prep cooler drawers in front of main kitchen. Observed mold in bar ice drawer upstairs. Mold observed in bar soda dispenser upstairs Beverage observed downstairs Mold was observed in the ice channel of the dispenser.”

  • HENDERSHOT’S COFFEE BAR (237 PRINCE AVE B BUILDING): 83. Inspector states: “Mold growth observed on ice machine located near espresso in bar area. Observed cheese and yogurt kept at a temperature greater than 41F in walk-in cooler (WIC). Observed homemade ketchup stored in WIC for more than 7 days (09/ 28/2024)

  • BRUXIE (311 E WIDE ST): 84. Inspector notes: “Mold growth in bulk ice machine and self-serve beverage machine. Table to keep TCS food at 41F or lower. Vents throughout kitchen dusty.”
