Tommy’s Take: Bruins’ penalty troubles cost the Stars a loss

The Boston Bruins returned home after a three-game road trip and had a date with the Dallas Stars. Luckily they didn’t have to face it Jake Oettinger. But it didn’t matter as Casey DeSmith helped slam the door shut and stifle the Bruins’ offense.

The Stars came to Boston and picked up a commanding 5-2 victory over the Bruins to improve to 6-2 on the season. The Bruins started the game strong but ran into penalty trouble, and that’s where the Stars got to work.

It’s safe to say they definitely continued that trend and it was going to cost them the game.

Four of the seven goals scored came in special teams play. The Stars took advantage of the man advantage by taking advantage of the opportunities. The match, which was tied 1-1 in the first period, fell behind 4-1 due to undisciplined play.

The Stars weren’t just good on the man advantage, they were effective. Once they got into the zone, it was like clockwork how they turned the puck over and created chances. They made nine shot attempts and four shots on goal. Three out of four shots lit the lamp. This is effective and that was the difference in this game. Moreover, it was not just about whether the stars scored and capitalized, but also where the goals came from.
