Lebanon announces five deaths in Israeli attack on Tire city center

Beirut (Lebanon) (AFP) – Lebanon’s health ministry said at least five people were killed and 10 others were injured in an Israeli attack on the southern city of Tire on Monday.

In the statement made by the health ministry, it was stated that there were temporarily five dead and 10 injured in “Israeli’s attack on a building in the center of the coastal city this morning”.

It was stated that “Efforts to remove the debris continue.”

An AFP video reporter saw emergency personnel carrying a survivor on a stretcher to an ambulance while other rescue teams tried to extinguish the smoldering fire at the site where a block of flats had collapsed like a pancake.

Tire, an ancient coastal city on the UNESCO World Heritage list, was subjected to heavy Israeli attacks last week and a large part of the center was left in ruins.

Israel last month stepped up air strikes on Hezbollah strongholds and sent ground forces to Lebanon after a year of cross-border clashes with the Iran-backed group over the Gaza war.
