PIA flight attendant arrested for mobile phone ‘smuggling’

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant was arrested by customs officials at Islamabad airport on his return from Canada for allegedly trying to smuggle a mobile phone into the country.

It was reported that Faisal Majeed, who arrived from Toronto on October 24 with PIA flight PK-782, was found with 16 mobile phones attached to his body during a search by customs officials. He was immediately detained.

Sources revealed that Majeed was traveling on a tourist visa and was allegedly returning to Islamabad when the new smartphones were delivered to him.

PIA management issued a reasoned notice to Majeed, demanding an explanation within three days and launching an investigation against him. Failure to provide a satisfactory response could lead to termination, according to a PIA spokesperson.

“Your action affected the reputation of national airline PIA,” the management said.

The national carrier emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for employee misconduct, with the spokesperson stating: “Any illegal actions by employees are unacceptable and we do not tolerate those involved in illegal activities.”

The spokesman confirmed that Majeed remains in the custody of Customs officials who are continuing to investigate the matter.
