“The Cabin in the Woods” is definitely one of my favorite horror movies. Either that or “Alien,” though I tend to lean toward the latter since it’s one of the best movies ever made.

But here’s the dirty little secret: I’m not a big horror fan. There are some horror movies that I really like, but most of the time I find the genre repetitive and uninspired.

That’s why I find myself recommending “The Cabin in the Woods” to fellow moviegoers who are on the fence about the genre. Although this is a horror movie, it’s also a clever satire on the entire slasher horror genre. There’s also a twist or two that lands expertly, including an incredible cameo at the end of the movie.

But before I wax poetic about why I love this movie so much, here’s a little background on what “The Cabin in the Woods” is about.

‘The Cabin in the Woods’ stars Kristen Connolly as Dana Polk, Anna Hutchinson as Jules Louden, Chris Hemsworth as Curt Vaughan, Jesse Williams as Holden McCrea and Fran Kranz as Marty Mikalski. These five college students are getting ready for a fun weekend in the forest.

But of course this is a horror movie. So a pleasant weekend is not expected.

When the students arrive, things are not going well in an unnamed underground bunker. Technicians Garry (Richard Jenkins) and Steve (Bradley Whitford) prepare for unsuspecting teenagers while also dealing with failed operations in Stockholm and Japan.

After the group of five settles into the home away from home, Gary and Steve begin to unleash fear after fear on the students. Aim? Kill them all; though four out of five are good enough.

‘The Cabin in the Woods’ excels at being a satire – but it’s still a great horror movie

If you don’t want to be spoiled, turn around immediately. I won’t give away the entire movie or any really cool footage, but I do need to give some insight into what happens when Gary and Steve start taking down the students.

Honestly, my favorite is the Gary and Steve storyline. The idea of this horror movie being a secret organization pulling the strings as part of a ritual sacrifice is intriguing, and frankly, the chemistry between them is great. While the students are dealing with a real horror movie above ground, we are watching a workplace comedy below.

Still this like that a horror movie. And if you watch it peacock You will see this for yourself after reading this article. There’s tons of blood and murder, although it has elements that elevate it above your traditional slasher movie. Too much people are dying. Yes, the movie doesn’t take itself too seriously, so the murder and mayhem don’t have the same impact as in a movie like “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” but it’s all still there.

If you’re looking for something to watch this Halloween, look no further than “The Cabin in the Woods.” I promise you won’t regret it.
