Weld County CIRT investigating after officer shot man twice in response to gunfire – Greeley Tribune

The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating a shooting that occurred after a Weld County Sheriff’s deputy shot a man twice after the man fired several shots while deputies were on the scene.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds and is expected to survive, according to a statement from the Critical Incident Response Team.

Around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Lane in unincorporated Weld County, just east of Greeley.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they encountered a man with a gun, and police said the man fired the gun twice while deputies were at the scene. The statement did not specify whether the man’s fire was directed at the deputies.

The Critical Incident Response Team consists of members of law enforcement agencies in the local jurisdiction who investigate incidents in which an officer used or attempted to use deadly force in the line of duty. The team presents its findings to the district attorney; The prosecutor decides whether to clear the officer of the charges or refer the shooting to a grand jury.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Michael Shea 970-350-9676 or [email protected].
