7 people shot overnight in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI – Five men and two women were injured in shootings in Kalamazoo Saturday night.

All of those injured in the shooting are adults and are expected to survive, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officials said.

Kalamazoo police said the first shooting occurred just before midnight on Saturday, Oct. 26, at a shopping mall in the 2900 block of Gull Road, where witnesses told police they heard between eight and 20 gunshots.

Officers arrived to find evidence of a large gathering with multiple damaged vehicles and gunfire in the car park.

A short time later, a man and a woman arrived at area hospitals with gunshot wounds. They told police they were in the Gull Road area.

Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, five people, four men and one woman, arrived at area hospitals with gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred following an argument inside a building in the 1100 Block of W. Paterson Street. Police said one of the victims, believed to be the target of the attack, reported returning fire during the incident.

Officers went to the building on Paterson Street and found multiple firearms.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officials say the shootings do not appear to be random and they believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 269-337-8139 and speak to a detective.
