Saints vs. Chargers Week 8 final prediction and betting odds

Los Angeles Chargers NFC matchup against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8 before returning to AFC play with four in-conference matchups.

Ideally, Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers would like to break the .500 mark again in the stretch, especially against a visiting Saints team that had to use backup rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler to replace Derek Carr.

Nothing is that simple in the NFL, but this feels pretty cut and dry for the Chargers. The Saints have scored 51 and 33 points in the last two games. Justin Herbert’s near-400-yard burst against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7 was disrupted by backups passing the ball and turning the ball over directly.

On paper, Herbert’s weapons should be more consistent despite the major injury report. Running backs like JK Dobbins should also be able to find space to work on the field.

This matchup is a tough one for the Chargers defense. Joey Bosa should come back and dominate against the run, even though it’s a snap count. A strong run defense all year was hurt by a 181-yard rushing loss against the Cardinals last week, but some of that was due to the versatile Kyler Murray.

You can be sure the Saints will try to emulate some of the things that worked for the Cardinals. But Herbert and Co. If he can start to pull away, Khalil Mack and others will be given the freedom to pressure the rookie Rattler into making mistakes.

The quarterback feels like there’s a big hole here. Rattler was a summer sensation and could be the future of New Orleans. But the Chargers have a big advantage, they are at home and look competitive in every game; The Saints are in danger of losing their sixth game in a row for the first time since 2005.
