The city of Childersburg is relocating its police department

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. (WBRC) – The city of Childersburg has begun construction of a new headquarters.

The station will be built on Hwy 280, which the city believes will have a major impact on reducing speeding and vehicle crashes.

The city has long needed a new police station and recently purchased the former medical-surgical building on Hwy 280, next to Central Alabama Community College.

The city plans to renovate the building while adding to the municipal complex. Mayor Pro Tem Bill Moody said this new space allows for faster response times to traffic accidents and other emergencies and provides officers with improved facilities to better do their jobs.

“Well, it gives us quicker access to 280. ALDOT is working with us to get quicker access to the median where we can get to the east limit of 280. Of course we’re on the west limit of 280. It’s just going to give us quicker access,” he says Moody.

Bill Moody said the city has allocated $2.3 million for the renovations, with a completion date set for spring 2025. The second phase of this project will improve the fire station.
