PICA says it is in dialogue to address staff concerns

PASSPORT, the Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) said on Friday that its management team was in dialogue with staff regarding their concerns about some aspects of the Government’s compensation restructuring programme.

The agency made the statement in a press release in response to a report published Friday. Picker The newspaper wrote that workers were unhappy with the reclassification and were considering a strike.

Accordingly PickerWorkers were left disgruntled this week after receiving their October salaries and learning that junior and senior employees in different departments were “put together and placed on the same level, on the same scale, regardless of qualifications, tenure and performance.”

The newspaper reported that an employee said he called on the prime minister and the ministry of national security to intervene.

“We will do everything that is legal, if the Transformation Implementation Union in the ministry of finance does not meet with the union to undo what has been done, we will definitely go on strike,” he said.
Picker quoted the employee.

In its statement on Friday, PICA said it had also discussed the issue with relevant ministries and unions and that “all stakeholders are working diligently to address any remaining concerns as quickly as possible.”

The agency also thanked staff “for their continued patience and professionalism.”
