Meet Lynette Hepburn-Richardson, winner of VSU’s 2024 Presidential Award of Excellence for Classified Personnel

Valdosta State University president Dr. Richard A. Carvajal recently honored Lynette Hepburn-Richardson with the 2024 Presidential Award of Excellence for Classified Personnel. She joined the VSU staff in 2014 and initially worked part-time in the South Georgia State College Entrance Program. Two years later he accepted a full-time position in Corporate Research. He currently serves as a career counselor in the Office of Career Opportunities and Volunteer Services, where he works with Harley Langdale Jr. Responsible for supporting students in the Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Master’s Degree. Social Work program and the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University president Dr. Richard A. Carvajal recently honored Lynette Hepburn-Richardson with the 2024 Presidential Award of Excellence for Classified Personnel.

This distinguished recognition is an annual tradition at VSU, recognizing the high standards of service, initiative, reliability, professional attitude, exemplary work performance and leadership of the university’s dedicated staff.

Hepburn-Richardson joined the VSU staff in 2014 and initially worked part-time in the South Georgia State College Entrance Program. Two years later he accepted a full-time position in Corporate Research. He currently serves as a career counselor in the Office of Career Opportunities and Volunteer Services, where he works with Harley Langdale Jr. Responsible for supporting students in the Faculty of Business Administration, Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Master’s Degree. Beyond her professional duties as a career counselor, Hepburn-Richardson serves the VSU community as a member of the Personnel Affairs Council, University Council Plus, and the Mental Health Initiative Task Force. She was recently selected as a member of the Student Advisory Council leadership team; His four-year term will begin in March 2026.

VSU: This award recognizes the high standards of service, initiative, reliability, professional attitude, exemplary work performance and leadership of the university’s dedicated staff. What advice do you have for VSU’s fall graduates and young graduates who want to demonstrate excellence in their current/future professional roles?

Hepburn-Richardson: Don’t work for recognition; Focus on consistent effort and commitment to excellence and recognition will follow.

As winner of the Presidential Award of Excellence for Classified Personnel, Hepburn-Richardson received a framed certificate and a $1,000 cash prize.
