MIAMI – Man suspected in the shooting death of popular Cuban reggaeton musician El Taiger Behind bars in South Florida after arrest in New York.

Damian Valdez Galloso appeared in court Thursday morning on charges related to the death of El Taiger, whose real name is Jose Manuel Zaldivar.

As detectives took Galloso to jail Wednesday, he did not react when asked if he was guilty.

Police detained Galloso in New York City earlier in the week. He then flew to Miami and was seen arriving at Miami International Airport on Wednesday.

Last month, El Taiger was found shot in the back of an SUV near Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. He died after requiring life support for several days.

Miami-Dade police also executed a search warrant at a home in Hialeah in connection with the murder case.

A neighbor’s cellphone video shows police investigating the home.

It is not yet clear at this stage what the reason for the murder was.

Galloso was not granted bail and will remain behind bars while awaiting trial.
