No suspect in custody after deadly shooting outside Billings

A man who was shot early Thursday morning south of Billings has died.

According to the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the 7900 block of Cormier Road after a man called 911 and claimed he had been shot.

When deputies arrived, they found an injured man still alive.

When the man stopped breathing, life-saving measures were taken, but the injured person died.

No suspects have been identified and authorities are asking for the public’s help.

The sheriff’s office asks if “anyone who may have seen a vehicle, a person walking on the road, or anything suspicious is asked to contact the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office at 406-256-2929.”

The following was sent by the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office:

On 11-7-24 at approximately 6:00 a.m. City/County Dispatch received a call from a person claiming he had been shot. Dispatch was able to get the man on the phone and he returned the phone to Cormier Rd. He was able to track it to the location in the 7900 block. Deputies were dispatched and upon arrival they found an injured adult male who was still alive. When he stopped breathing, life-saving measures were taken but the man succumbed to his injuries.

We are currently in the process of confirming the man’s identity as he has not been positively identified as of this press release. No suspects are currently in custody and the investigation is still in its early stages so we are not releasing any further details.

However, we are asking for help from the public. Cormier Rd. Anyone who may be on or near it. Anyone who may have seen a vehicle, a person walking on the road, or anything suspicious around 6:00 this morning is asked to contact the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office at 406-256-2929.
