The division bench of the Kolkata high court, headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam, upheld the decision of the single judge directing the CBI probe into allegations of custodial torture of a woman who took part in protests over the rape and murder of a doctor in RG Kar Medical College. The woman, Rama Das, reportedly showed signs of hematoma following her arrest, but conflicting medical reports raised concerns. The court rejected the West Bengal government’s objection, citing inconsistencies in medical evaluations as grounds for an independent investigation by the CBI.
